Our Governors
Governors are like a Board of Directors who decide how the school is run. They meet at least once a term. One of their functions is to report annually to parents on the school year via a written report called the School Profile. You can read our School Profile on-line at the following website;

School governors have a wide range of responsibilities. They help to raise the standards of pupil achievement and plan the school's future direction. Governors are also accountable for the performance of the school to parents and the wider community.
What do school governors do?
The governing body of a school is responsible for ensuring that it is run to promote pupil achievement. Its duties include:
- setting strategic direction, policies and objectives
- approving the school budget
- reviewing progress against the school's budget and objectives
- appointing, challenging and supporting the headteacher
The governing body is made up of:
- parent governors (elected by parents)
- staff representatives (elected by school staff)
- local authority governors (appointed by the local authority)
- community governors (members of the local community appointed by the governing body)
Governing bodies make their decisions based on the advice of committees that deal with specific issues, such as the school's curriculum, premises or finances. If you become a governor, you will probably be asked to serve on a committee where you have an interest or can make a contribution.

A message from our chair of govenors (Mr J Tossell)....
Since being elected as Chair of Governors last year, I have become aware of just how much work is involved in the running of a school.
To be successful, this has to involve everyone, not just school staff, but parents, children, friends and governors.
Having worked in the public sector for 10 years I believe I have a good understanding of the community.
Having a child myself, I can appreciate how important school life is for our children.
The early years of a child’s life are very important and I believe that the school plays a crucial role in their development. Children should feel happy at school, and as governors we should seek to ensure that all children progress well with all aspects of their learning, in all subjects.
Children’s experience at school should be the beginning of a Life Long Learning experience, that hopefully continues into adult life.
Please feel free to contact myself or any of the governors (via School) should you wish to discuss anything you may feel concerned about in relation to your child’s schooling.
