Rowley Hall Primary School

To nurture happy, healthy, confident learners who always aim high!

Phonics

At Rowley Hall we teach phonics through our Read Write Inc. Literacy Programme.   Read Write Inc. starts in Nursery where children learn the ‘Set  1 speed sounds’.  The Read Write Inc. learning journey then continues into Reception and Key Stage 1.  Children are assessed every six weeks and grouped accordingly, progress is monitored to ensure children move quickly through the programme and suitable challenge is provided.

 Phonics Screening Check

At the end of Year 1 children’s phonics levels are assessed.  This is a Government Statutory Assessment   - ‘Phonics Screening Check’.  This screening check confirms whether children have learned phonics decoding to an appropriate standard and will identify sounds needing further consolidation in Year 2.  For more information on the Phonics Screen check click here.

This gives you access to one of the levelled reading schemes we use in school.  Teachers  allocate books to your child’s online account for you to read together.

Throughout the books there are quiz questions, answer these correctly to earn online rewards.
