Rowley Hall Primary School

Learning, growing and achieving together.

Our Governors

Governors are like a Board of Directors who decide how the school is run. They meet at least once a term. One of their functions is to report annually to parents on the school year via a written report called the School Profile.

School governors have a wide range of responsibilities. They help to raise the standards of pupil achievement and plan the school's future direction. Governors are also accountable for the performance of the school to parents and the wider community.

What do school governors do?

The governing body of a school is responsible for ensuring that it is run to promote pupil achievement. Its duties include:

  • setting strategic direction, policies and objectives
  • approving the school budget
  • reviewing progress against the school's budget and objectives
  • appointing, challenging and supporting the headteacher

The governing body is made up of:

  • Parent Governors - (Appointed through a Parent ballot)
  • Staff Governors - (Appointed through Staff ballot)
  • Local Authority Governors - (Appointed by the Local Authority)
  • Co-opted Governors - (Appointed by members of the Governing Body)
  • Trust Governors - (Appointed by Rowley Learning Trust)

Governing bodies make their decisions based on the advice of committees that deal with specific issues, such as the school's curriculum, premises or finances. If you become a governor, you will probably be asked to serve on a committee where you have an interest or can make a contribution.
